USCIS Fee Changes Starting in December 2016

Malvern Burnett • December 30, 2016

In October of 2016, the office of United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) announced that it would be rolling in new fees for the first time in six years. Applications, petitions, and other service fees have increased across the board, in many cases by hundreds of dollars. The changes took effect for all documents postmarked after December 23, 2016.

In addition to fee increases, the USCIS has also published updated immigration forms to reflect the newest 2017 versions. These forms can be accessed at uscis.gov/forms . Specifically, the Form N-400 (Application for Naturalization) has been updated. The USCIS will only accept applications filed with the most recent version of the form. In most cases, the USCIS will reject an application that does not use the newest versions or include the exact application fee.

When speaking with your attorney, make sure that all parties understand any changes in USCIS policy and the new USCIS Fees that may be required. All other information related to fee increases or new service charges can be found here .
